Agriculture and Groundwater | Industries Influences on Our Water

The Salinas Valley agriculture is one of the most productive agricultural regions in California. Agricultural operators apply an annual 20.8 million tons of synthetic fertilizers to aid the crop health and increase yields resulting in groundwater contamination. This study evaluates alternative methods of agriculture production and policies to limit the amount of synthetic fertilizers that infiltrate groundwater from irrigation and rainwater runoff and reduce the impact on the groundwater aquifers.
